Message from Master Koot Hoomi
Thanksgiving is more than a day of eating mashed potatoes and gravy or watching football. It’s a time to be thankful!
Scientifically, the positive effects of thankfulness have been proven for a variety of purposes. Thankfulness will boost your neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin and the hormone oxytocin, all associated with well-being and having a positive outlook on life. It allows you to see value, virtue and benefit in everything. In this respect, thankfulness can be considered the antidote to many forms of suffering. Therefore, it is also an actual form of spirituality.
People say, changes with the outside world’s negativity keeps them from being thankful. The outside world, this beautiful planet is going through a transition and yes, there is uncertainty and unease. This planet is always in transition or in contact with it in one way or another. Nature is our mirror: sunrise to sunset, waxing and waning moon, conception to pregnancy to birth, childhood to adulthood to death, seed to tree, seasons. You witness transition daily, but when in a new phase, there is a tendency to feel lost and every so often worried: When will this be over? or How will I do it?
Think about every spring, the flowers start to peek through the ground. Think about how hard it must be for flowers to sprout and be colorful, yet, they push through and it all works out. Nature has both the challenge and the reward of growth built in.
Do not become one with the confusion of foreign circumstances, instead of embracing an inner knowledge that this too, shall pass because it’s part of the whole. Then somehow, you prepare yourselves, you cope, master, and make it. This despite not always having the end in sight. When you wake up in the morning, you find the world largely as you left it. You are still in the room in which you awoke and is still the same one you went to sleep in. The outside world is still there. Also, with your work being kind and thankful in any business is most dynamic. Your thankful energy will spread causing the atmosphere to be a happy place. We must be Spiritual Warriors in life. This is not a reference to fighting per say, but to perseverance, and determined inner strength.
Steps to help you: Take the time to practice of letting go and let God. Do your best and the let the universe do the rest. Make sure you breathe. Inhale full, exhale with the ah sound…deep sighs help to train you to hear your own voice. Practice thankfulness. Before you go to bed at night, say thank you for the day. Learn to listen. Practice listening to what you are hearing as guidance. Check in with yourself and notice whatever it is that comes up: witness, hear, listen and act. It could be as simple as buying oranges or going to the gas station, Try one new thing. Do one new thing per day. Movement of any kind trains your brain that you are not stuck. Honor yourself. Honor and accept yourself as you are where you are…there is usually a beginning, a middle and an end to each cycle before a new one starts. Try meditation. It will relax and refresh you.
On this Thanksgiving Day let us recognize the blessings in our lives and thank God for our families, friends, talents and everything else we have. No training required; just an open heart and the right attitude will do it.
