Shirley's Explanation about Spiritual Qualifications

Maggy and I were sitting in front of a huge water fountain with the statue "The Runner" at the Kiener Plaza in downtown St. Louis. St. Louis was a special city for Maggy as it was where she started her singing career and fell in love.

The sound of the water splashing in the pool brought instant serenity, and the expression Maggy's face showed just that. "I thought it would be nice to take you down memory lane," I said to Maggy. Maggy knew I wanted to hear her story of becoming an entertainer in showbiz during Vaudeville days. "I came here naïve and alone at the age of seventeen," she said. "I was very eager to be a famous singer. It was at Roth's Café that I met Duke, my soul-mate. After his return from the war we were to marry with the stipulation that I stay home and not pursue a singing career. Although I deeply loved Duke, after a few months the excitement of being his wife and staying home wore thin. I became unhappy and wanted to go back to work. I missed the singing and making people feel good. My agent called with an offer I couldn't refuse, and that was when I knew it was time to move on. I loved Duke, we were soul-mates. However, I had to follow my heart. I had to sing. Little did I know it was fate and my soul knew it."

"What helped you to be strong enough to follow your intuition?" I asked.

I followed four steps:

  • Discrimination
  • Desirelessness
  • Good Conduct
  • Love

Maggy then explained these steps to me and how they lead to the spiritual pathway. Discrimination is the place or step between the real and the unreal, which is the entrance to the Spiritual Path. It doesn't matter if you call yourself a Hindu or a Buddhist, a Christian or a Mohammedan, whether you are Indian or an Englishman, a Chinaman or a Russian. It must be understood that all are "One," and therefore only what the "One" wills can be in reality. The real and the unreal are of many varieties; discrimination must be made between the important and unimportant, the useful and the useless, the true and the false, the selfish and the unselfish.

Your physical body must be treated well and taken good care of. It is important not to overwork, to feed it properly, exercise, and be in control. The Astral body has desires – it can make you feel angry, speak sharp words, feel greedy and envious of another's possessions, jealous or depressed. You need to discriminate between your wants and your needs.

Your mental body proudly thinks of itself as separate from the body and heart. At times, it thinks of its "self" and little of others. When you meditate, the mind may create a stream of thoughts and chatter that stops the flow of energy and messages. It's through exercise, deep breathing, and relaxation that allows the mind to flow freely with life. You must study deeply the hidden laws of Nature, and in doing so you will have good reasoning and common sense.

It's a must to discriminate between the important and unimportant. Be firm and don't yield to others if the issue isn't of matter to you. You must be gentle, kind, reasonable and accommodating in doing this, while allowing others the same liberty.

You must distinguish between truth and falsehood. Sometimes it isn't easy as there are many untrue thoughts out in the world. Remember, a thousand people can agree upon a subject, but if they know nothing about that subject, their opinion is of no value. Those who walk their " Spiritual Path" must learn to think for themselves.

God and Love are filled with wisdom, and the more wisdom you have, the more love and light you manifest. Be true in your words so not to exaggerate, and never attribute motives to another, for each person knows his or her thought and reason. You must discriminate and learn to distinguish the God in everyone and everything. Divine Life helps guide you toward the proper spiritual path.

  1. Take a deep breath, count to 10 and exhale. Do this 3 times.
  2. Visualize Pink and Blue colors inside your body, flowing from your toes to the top of your head.
  3. Picture an atom inside your heart, flowing up into your subconscious.
  4. Picture inside your subconscious mind, a room filled with rainbow colors.
  5. Know that all of life exists within your heart, mind and being. Feel calmness and know that your truth is apparent in your subconscious room. You are the center of the Universe. God. The Universal Subconscious Mind is connected with your being.
  6. Say to yourself, "I need only to open my mind and heart and keep thoughts in the path of truth and I am filled to overflowing with the power of Love and the Universe. For I am One with the All."
  7. Flow the atom back to your subconscious "room", closing the door, and flowing the atom back to your heart.
  8. Now that your atom is back to the heart, allow the rainbow colors to flow through your heart and then inside your entire body.

This meditation is a great tool to help you understand that everything proceeds from mind, and those thoughts can create the proper discrimination. The proper discrimination, with the assistance of the heart and emotions, creates whatever you desire through Divine Light and Love.
